Hi Susan,
I regularly read Vocabulagic and recommend it to other teachers. I just wanted to make you aware of something I noticed when I checked out the Wordnik site.  When I entered the word EXPLICIT and scrolled down the page, there were several very inappropriate comments and photos. I just wanted to let you know and caution others. Thanks for all you do to help us continue to learn more about our wonderful language.
Sincerely,
Becky  (8-20-2012)

I saw the Open University short cartoon about the History of English. Quite clever. If I were still teaching literature to high schoolers, I would use it in a class.

Sorry for the technical difficulties. Thanks for keeping the information coming through Feedburner, though. I enjoy your vocabulary post very much and look forward to the information. Happy Memorial Day!

Your Feedburner message today was very timely. I'll be sharing it with my students who are taking the class for credit.

I am using one of the posted pieces on Read Alouds and discussing how important they are. Thank you for having so much available for us.

Thank you for the 'ish' article. Being in South Africa, ish or sometimes spelt iesh has a unique meaning. Some of the local meanings of ish:
I don't know
What do you think you are doing?
This cannot be true
Shame
Sorry
It became a word, similar to 'awesome' that has lost its specific meaning (overwhelming) to mean almost anything (anything out of normal).
Thanks again.

Happy New Year! Thought I would take this opportunity to thank you for your publication and to let you know that I read it faithfully. Have gotten so many good leads and I've made very good use of your resources.

Thanks!

Thanks for another year of Vocabulogic. It's one of my very favorite websites. I especially love being on in the quiet wee hours of the morning and seeing on the Revolver Map that someone on the other side of the world is sharing my love of words at that very same moment!

Once when teaching my darlings about the prefix re-, we were looking for words that indeed did have the prefix and other words that just look liked it (as in read). One smart one said she had found one - remember. I said "Oh really??" She said yes, that they had their soccer team each year and Janet had been on it for a few years so she was a re-member of the team!!!! We all had a chuckle and I think the idea of prefix carrying meaning into words has stuck with them over the ensuing years.

On Processing Digital Text: I love my Kindle - most of the things I read on it are books for enjoyment and I don't worry about email etc. I do like the dictionary ability and have really gotten interested in the word origins that are shown there. I only occasionally go to the Wikipedia site to get more background knowledge, but that is more than I used to do with paper copy books. All in all, I find I miss the Kindle capabilities when I am reading a regular paper book! But it is dangerous to extrapolate from how we (as experienced readers) deal with these e-books and all their capabilities as to how kids learning to read might deal with them.

Hi Susan,
I'm an Ohio public school speech pathologist turned elementary reading intervention teacher.  I love Vocabulogic and decided today to email you to make sure you know about another favorite of mine (Children of the Code) and there it was referenced in one of the entries under "See Spot" on your website! Thanks for your generosity in sharing your high quality work. It makes me (and I'm sure others like me) better at what I (we) do. Keep up the good  work!!!

I never thought of using the word clouds as a means for picking targeted vocab words before starting a passage. Thanks for the link to Wordle. Kids would love to use it.

Dear Susan,
I shared your Vocabulogic site with my teacher credential students during "Elementary Reading" class. It was a huge hit!
We started our session with a phonics quiz, so to decompress from test-taking mode and transition into our topic of "Vocabulary" we played on freerice.com, a resource I learned about on Vocabulogic. Later in the session when we talked about morphemic analysis, we looked at Vocabulogic - the polls, the range of articles, the links. The video titled "Alliteration" and the photo of Johnny Carson caught their eye and they asked to see it. We were in stitches.
Thanks for bringing the joy of words into my classroom.

Hi Susan,
I thought you would get a kick out of this anecdote from one of my teachers:
I am working with a student on combining forms and we were studying –ology.  I ask him what biology would be the study of and he heard buyology and said, "The science of buying things."  I think this kid has a future in marketing!

Hi Susan,
I really enjoyed your four-ply blog article.  May I have permission to post it in CDL's online library and also to use in an e-pub (with credits given, of course?)
All my best,
Alice

Hi Susan,
Do you have any idea how much easier my job is with this weekly resource? It not only benefits me with new ideas but causes my teachers (students) to dig deeper and think more critically about vocabulary, decoding and comprehension instruction. I downloaded the slides. I knew there had to be a way to save them and use them.
Cheers,
Mary
